Booker T. Jones
Bidding a fifty year plus career, Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Famer, Booker T. Jones is making his Cambridge debut on the back of his first solo album in 20 years.
"Green Onions" recorded as Booker T. & The MGs may have been his career defining hit, but you don't get inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame or a lifetime achievement Grammy of one record.
Booker T. Jones was part of the Stax houseband that began to define soul music as a distinct genre, backing the likes of Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Rufus and Carla Thomas, adding his signature Hammond B3 touch to countless recordings.
Naturally he managed to deliver a number of his own records along the way, but it's been a long gap until Anti-Records got him back in the studio to record his new album, "Potato Hole".
As a man being used to having top musicians around him, it came as no surprise to find a great band stepping up to do the honours, The Drive By Truckers and a certain Neil Young on guitar for most of the album.(No news on if Neil is making the trip with Booker T., but our guess is not.)
Booker T. Jones has the word soul running through him like a stick of rock. This should be dynamite.
